TOTAL Responsibility

The buck stops here. As a general contractor, developer, architect, facilities manager or building owner, you’re interested in a dependable relationship with a mechanical contractor to address all of your mechanical systems. We assume TOTAL responsibility as a single point-of-contact, coordinating all project details from start to finish.

Delivering on expectations. As the largest locally-owned mechanical contractor in southeast Wisconsin, we provide a TOTAL experience—the horsepower and capability to provide complete mechanical contracting services on any size building project, small to large.

Our resources, as well as our 24-hour emergency services, extend to Milwaukee, Waukesha, Jefferson, Walworth, Racine, Kenosha, Washington and Ozaukee Counties in southeastern Wisconsin. In addition, client relationships have extended our reach across the United States.

Our repertoire of experience includes medical facilities (hospitals, medical care centers, nursing homes and CBRFs), commercial facilities (laboratories, plants, warehouses, factories, process facilities and office buildings), retail locations (shopping malls, restaurants and food stores), public facilities (hotels and correctional institutions), educational facilities and places of assembly (theaters, arenas and places of worship).

Up-to-date on state-of-the-art. Your investment in mechanical systems demands our investment in education and training. At TOTAL, we created TOTAL Mechanical University—an interdisciplinary, comprehensive, in-house training program designed to keep our employees current.

TOTAL University supports our employees at the level required to plan, install and maintain today’s increasingly sophisticated technologies.

Safety from day one. The welfare and safety of our skilled craftsmen, and all partners on a building project, begins long before the work begins. TOTAL insists on strict adherence to our comprehensive safety program. At TOTAL Mechanical University, new employees attend a rigorous safety orientation before setting foot on a TOTAL job site.

Our commitment to safety includes two full-time safety directors and a continuous education program to ensure that all employees stay up-to-date on safety procedures and the latest protective equipment needed to keep them and the job site safe. Safety protocols are administered and supervised by our TOTAL Safety Review Board, a team consisting of union and non-union office and field personnel. TOTAL has received numerous safety awards and has been cited as a safe workplace for over 30 years.

TOTAL Heritage

Growing to serve. TOTAL Mechanical, Inc. was established in 1968 by an engineering graduate from Marquette University.  Twenty years later, the Company was purchased by Dennis Braun, who was then a 10-year veteran of TOTAL as a union sheet metal technician.  Under Dennis’ leadership, TOTAL Mechanical has grown to be the largest locally-owned mechanical contractor in southeast Wisconsin and a company highly regarded for quality, technical expertise and absolute customer commitment.  Dennis’ dedication to overall excellence continues to define the Company’s processes and beliefs.

Our 36,000 square foot Corporate Headquarters, offering the latest in fabrication and information technology, was built in 1996.  Unique to the industry, this state-of-the-art facility provides a more “employee-centered” workplace, with comfortable work spaces, a fitness center, dining facility and locker rooms. 1996 also saw the start of our Industrial Division. We’ve expanded our facility numerous times to accommodate our steady growth.

Our growth can be attributed, in part, to the acquisitions that we’ve successfully implemented. In 2002, TOTAL purchased Hampton Plumbing, a third-generation commercial plumbing contractor, expanding our plumbing capabilities. In 2004, TOTAL purchased Wenninger Mechanical Services, significantly enhancing our building automation capabilities. TOTAL purchased Downey Mechanical in 2006, resulting in the introduction of our Fire Protection Division. In 2008, TOTAL acquired Lombard Electric, expanding our electrical capabilities.

Today, we employ over 300 people, and we continue to grow. Not through any inherent desire to be the biggest, but to provide the depth and breadth of talent and services that will provide the most complete and “satisfying” level of service to our customers.
