TOTAL Mechanical, Inc. was established in 1968 by an engineering graduate from Marquette University. Twenty years later, the Company was purchased by Dennis Braun, who was then a 10-year veteran of TOTAL as a union sheet metal technician. Under Dennis’ leadership TOTAL Mechanical has grown to be the largest locally-owned mechanical contractor in Southeast Wisconsin and a company highly regarded for quality, technical expertise and absolute customer commitment. Dennis’ dedication to overall excellence continues to define the Company’s processes and beliefs.
Dennis added Tim Braun to the management team in 1988. Tim was assigned the task of building a service department to respond to the growing needs of Total’s customers. Total currently runs the largest, most talented HVAC service fleet in Southeast Wisconsin.
In 1996, TOTAL Mechanical built a 36,000 square foot Corporate Headquarters offering the latest in fabrication and information technology. Unique to the industry, this state of the art facility provided a more “employee-centered” workplace including large, comfortable work spaces, a fitness center, dining facility and locker rooms. 1996 also saw the start of TOTAL’s Industrial Division and the revitalization of their Residential group.
Total has expanded their facility numerous times to accommodate the Company’s phenomenal growth. In 1999, an addition to the building added 14,000 square feet of production capacity. In 2006, production capacity was expanded by another 25,000 square feet concurrent with relocating the Company’s warehouse to a nearby location. Office capacity was added in 2002, 2004, 2006 and again in 2008.
The Company’s growth can be attributed, in part, to the acquisitions that TOTAL has successfully completed in recent years. In 2002, TOTAL purchased Hampton Plumbing, a third generation commercial plumbing contractor, redefining the Company’s plumbing capabilities. In 2004, TOTAL purchased Wenninger Mechanical Services, Inc. In addition to adding significant talent to the TOTAL team, this acquisition significantly enhanced the Company’s building automation capabilities. TOTAL purchased Downey Mechanical in 2006 resulting in the introduction of the Company’s Fire Protection Division. In 2008, TOTAL made its most recent purchase; Lombard Electric; THE industry’s up and coming design build, full service, electrical contractor.
Today TOTAL Mechanical employs over 300 people and is continuing to grow, not through any inherent desire to be the biggest, but rather to provide the depth and breadth of talent and services that will provide the most complete and “satisfying” level of service to its customers.
