Salesperson-Commercial HVAC
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Division Vice President, the Commercial HVAC Salesperson is responsible for acquiring new accounts and/or projects in accordance with Company sales and profit objectives and maintaining relationships with existing customers..
Qualifications
Education: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of design experience.
Certificates/Licenses: Valid driver’s license. Satisfactory driving record. HVAC Designer stamp required. Professional Engineer stamp and/or LEED credential preferred.
Physical Job Requirements: Required to sit, stand and move throughout Company facilities. Must be able to perform job responsibilities in an industrial, construction site and general outdoor environment around heavy machinery and equipment.

Technical Skills: This position requires proficiency with commonly used mechanical HVAC terms, tools, concepts and practices; knowledge of applicable building codes, knowledge of industry safety practices, procedures and equipment; proficiency with commonly used financial concepts, practices and procedures; and proficiency with general office and estimating software.
Personal/Interpersonal Competencies: This position requires strong problem solving and analytical skills; the ability to work independently and exercise sound business judgment; the ability to make commitments and be willing to be held accountable against them; the ability to organize workloads to meet deadlines; the adaptability to accept or bring about change when needed; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; exceptional presentation and relationship building skills; the ability to excel in a team environment and advance overall team objectives; the ability to ensure customer satisfaction by delivering excellence in products and service; and extremely high standards for ethical conduct.
Key Activities
- Customer relations. Maintain the Company’s relationships with current customers. Develop relationships with new customers. Educate current and potential customers about Company’s competencies.
- New Business. Identify, develop and generate new business activity. Estimate projects/contracts in accordance with customer definitions/plans. Achieve customer and Company expectations regarding turnaround time for quotes/bids/proposals. Obtain bid bonds when necessary. Negotiate contracts in accordance with Company policies and objectives. Review resulting customer contracts. Ensure that contracts properly represent negotiated terms. Prepare contracts for Division Manager signature. Obtain risk management review of indemnification clauses. Coordinate and consolidate the bid documents and activities for all Divisions for multiple division projects.
- “Turn Overs” and Project Preparation. Prepare initial project documentation for “turning over” project to operations. Assist engineering/design/CAD in preparation of project drawings. Participate fully in “turn over” process to ensure that operations has a complete understanding of project and contract.
- Project Monitoring. Monitor projects for continued compliance with contract terms and to ensure that customer expectations are being met. Assist in the identification, pricing and negotiation of change orders as requested by the project manager. Participate in resolution of customer complaints or concerns as requested. Assist in collection issues as requested by finance.
- Participate in development and implementation of Company best practices.
- Participate in post mortem reviews of projects as requested.
Key Performance Factors
A successful Commercial HVAC Salesperson meets established sales and profit goals; continually enhances the Company’s relationships with existing customers, develops new customers for the Company, develops new services to be marketed, remains current on industry codes and practices, and actively participates in Company quality and customer satisfaction initiatives.
Working Conditions
This is a full time exempt position. Business hours are between 7:00am to 5:00pm.
